Positioning Your Online Business
How do you get started positioning your online business?
Think about your situation before coming up with a conclusion. Everyone has a problem they have to work through. Knowing your prospects problem and what they are going through helps you better position your business in front of them. You need to know exactly what it is and how they can relate in order for them to say, “Oh yea, that is exactly what I need.”
Make a list of all sorts of problems, or a list of your target market and it will help the brainstorm session of how you can best position your online business.
Use these simple, but difficult questions to help you get started.
1. What position do you own?
Know your competition. Who are you up against, the figure out if anything can be done about it. Simple keyword research can target the problems your prospects may have. Don’t forget to search for the solution, you may have different results. Everyone does their own research in different ways. You need to reach them in places that may be far reaching as well as close to relating to the problem.
2. What position do you want to own?
Figure out the best position from a long-term point of view. Define, and own the position you desire with the specialist in your expertise. Learn from the problems the best solution that sounds and will hold authority in your position. Take doctors for example.
3. Whom must you outgun?
Select a position that no one else has a firm grip on. Always be researching and thinking out of the box when you are going for the top of the market.
4. Do you have enough money?
Are you attempting to achieve the impossible. Advertising is fierce, and there are too many products and companies fighting for the prospect.
5. Can you stick it out?
With our over communicated society, positioning is cumulative. It takes advantage of those advertising in long-range. Companies should never change it’s basic positioning strategy. Only short-term maneuvers to implement the long-term strategy. Take the basic strategy and improve it.
6. Do you match your position?
Matching your position may take away your creativity. Those that are creative resist positioning thinking because positioning restricts creativity.
Now that you answered these questions. Do you position your online business yourself, or hire someone to position you? People have mixed opinions with this question. I’d love to hear your comments. When you position your online business yourself, you know what goes on inside. The outsider you hire, or another prospect looking at the online business, better able to get an objective opinion. Remember you are an online business entrepreneur for yourself, but not by yourself.
